Reinforced masonry bricks

Adding horizontal and vertical reinforcements in standard masonry allows to confer masonry elements a greater resistance to lateral shear forces and combined compressive and bending stress, both on the development plane of the walls and off the plane. In addition, it confers a higher deformation/ductility capacity to the system, which are clearly beneficial in terms of seismic behaviour, to an extent that this system has been adopted in areas exposed to high seismic risk. It therefore offers numerous and concrete benefits considering the addition of a low amount of reinforcement in the masonry as well as a limited increase in cost compared to the non-reinforced solution.
